There’s nothing like a delicious avocado to make my day, and I can’t think of a better way to double down on all those rich phytonutrients than with an avocado protein smoothie.
When it comes to this delicious avocado smoothie recipe, I have to confess: I’m one of those daily avocado junkies that not once, until years back, considered adding it to a smoothie.
I guess I was far too busy gobbling them down in every other way — from guacamole and salads to lettuce wraps, nori rolls, guacamole hummus, avocado toast . . . 🥑 😋
But now that I‘ve discovered how great they are in smoothies, and especially with a towering huge scoop of vanilla protein powder, I’m totally hooked. Though I still never would’ve imagined that a smoothie could taste so rich with a food I typically pair with salsa.
I’m also pretty stoked on how nutrient-dense avocados are, I mean, just look at this list:

Avocados are one of nature’s healthiest fruits, and one of the best ways ever to tap them is to nick and peel:
“Cut the avocado in half lengthwise around the seed, rotate a quarter-turn, cut lengthwise again to make quarter-avocado segments, separate the quarters, remove the seed, and, finally, starting from the tip, nick and carefully peel each segment, so as not to lose that nutrient-rich, darkest green flesh immediately under the skin.“
So here’s what you’ll need. The measurements are on the recipe card below:
Avocado Smoothie Ingredients
- Filtered water ice.
- Plant milk.
- Frozen banana.
- Vegan ice cream.
- Vegan yogurt.
- Ripe avocado.
- Stevia.
- Pink salt.
- Vanilla extract.
- Protein powder.
The avocados in this recipe are antioxidant-rich, high in potassium and fatty acids, and rock vitamins C, E, D, beta-carotene, and more.
They also boost the bioavailability of fat-soluble nutrients in fruits like tomatoes, which is why they rock with salsa.

Whenever I make smoothies, I double down on protein powders and nootropics. In fact I rarely do a smoothie or smoothie bowl these days without stacks of organic superfoods onboard.
However, recent studies show that avocados are what’s called a high PPO plant — meaning their polyphenol oxidase content can cancel out the absorption of key nutrients in particular foods — such as blackberries, blueberries, cacao, apples, teas, and other plants high in flavan-3-ols, which are polyphenolic substances that can get tapped out.
So, if you’re thinking you’d love a smoothie with avocado and chocolate, for instance, or a splash of matcha green tea, the PPO in the avocado will substantially reduce its benefits, which is not exactly what you want if you’re a health nut like me.

Avocado Protein Smoothie
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 cup filtered water ice.
- 2 cups plant milk.
- 1/3 cup vegan yogurt. (optional)
- 1/3 cup vegan ice cream. (optional)
- 1 cup banana. (frozen)
- 3/4 cup avocado. (ripe)
- 1/1/2 tsp stevia.
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.
- 1/4 tsp pink salt.
- 1 scoop protein powder.
Instructions
- Add the ingredients in the following order:
- Ice.
- Plant milk.
- Yogurt and ice cream (or either).
- Banana and avocado.
- Extract, stevia, and salt.
- Protein powder.
- Blend to desired consistency. For thicker add more ice cream or banana, for thinner more plant milk.
Notes
- I’ve found that Now Better Stevia Organic Extract Powder is the only brand that’s potent enough at the above quantity. If you use another brand you’ll need to add a lot more stevia to equal the same sweetness. If the ice cream or yogurt are sweetened, take that into account.
