This rich and creamy vegan chocolate shake recipe packs vitamins, minerals, bioactive compounds, and a next-level vegan protein powder.
I think we can all agree that one of the best ways to ramp nutrients these days beyond taking supplements and eating a healthy vegan diet, is with smoothies, raw pressed juices, protein shakes, coffees, and powerhouse meal replacement stacks.
They’re not only a fast-track for a hectic schedule and support intermittent fasting, they’re exceptionally rich—when you make them right.
I have experience with it, after all, because I rocked an organic food place with smoothies, milkshakes, espressos, mochas, the works. And there’s nothing faster—or easier—than packing a machine, pressing a button, and watching it swirl. 🤎
Or using a hand-held immersion tool for an optimized milkshake churn.

Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake Recipe

I use the exact measurements in this recipe for the professional 16 ounce serving size we used at the shop. They had to be precise to fit perfectly in the compostable cups. 🤎 🥤
Clearly you can double or triple it if you want more than that (and you may).

Vegan Milkshake Pro Tips
Base Ingredients & Texture
- Use Frozen Bananas or Ice Cubes – Frozen bananas add natural sweetness and a thick, creamy texture. If you don’t like bananas, use ice cubes or frozen plant-based milk for thickness.
- Choose the Right Plant-Based Milk – Almond, oat, soy, or coconut milk all work, but oat and full-fat coconut milk add the creamiest texture.
- Blend in Nut Butters – Almond, peanut, or cashew butter makes the shake richer and thicker.
Flavor Enhancements
- Add a Scoop of Vegan Ice Cream – This enhances both texture and flavor. Coconut or cashew-based ice creams work best.
- Use Natural Sweeteners – Dates, date sugar, maple syrup, stevia, or agave syrup add sweetness without refined sugar.
- Experiment with Flavor Add-Ins – Try cinnamon, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or espresso for extra depth.
- Sneak in Some Veggies – Cauliflower, zucchini, or avocado blend well without affecting taste and add extra nutrition.
- Rock Protein Powders – Superfood powders like the Organifi in this recipe add depth, texture, protein, and phytonutrients.
Blending & Serving
- Blend in Steps – Start with your liquid and soft ingredients, then add frozen ingredients to avoid overworking your blender.
- Using a High-Speed Blender – This ensures a super smooth and creamy consistency.
- Using a Frozen-Drink Machine – Follow the machine instructions to a tee and if you have questions contact the brand.
- Using a Hand Immersion Blender – Follow the instructions and make sure there’s enough liquid.
- Top it Off Right – Garnish with coconut whipped cream, chopped nuts, cacao nibs, or dairy-free organic syrups for an indulgent touch.

Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake

There are tons of organic vegan ice creams you can use in this recipe, from double-chocolate and vanilla bean to chocolate mint chip.
It’s simple enough to adjust the plant milk to achieve your desired consistency, but if it’s too thick the blender blades might quit. Unless, of course, you use a Vitamix (you can get one here) or a high-powered frozen drink machine:

You can also use a good old fashioned milkshake machine for a retro vibe.
I’m also a huge fan of mushroom supplements and add a little to my smoothies and shakes.

Enjoy! 🤎 😋
